Common Cummins Problems We Fix
Aftertreatment derates — The #1 call we get on Cummins engines. The SCR system, DEF quality sensor, and NOx sensors are frequent failure points. We diagnose the root cause — not just clear the code.
EGR cooler leaks — Internal cooler failures push coolant into the intake. If your coolant level keeps dropping with no external leak, this is likely the cause. Left unchecked, it leads to catastrophic engine damage.
Turbo actuator failures — The Holset VGT turbo on the ISX/X15 uses an electric actuator that fails regularly. Symptoms include low power, black smoke, and turbo fault codes.
Fuel system issues — Bad injectors, failing HP fuel pumps, and fuel contamination are common on high-mileage Cummins engines. We can perform cylinder contribution tests and injector cut-out tests on-site.
Overhead out of spec — Cummins engines require periodic valve and injector overhead adjustments. If yours hasn’t been done in 300,000+ miles, it’s overdue and will cause performance issues.
